Exploration & Apprenticeship Program
Embark on an exciting journey with the Wa'a KIAKAHI Exploration & Apprenticeship Program is a remarkable opportunity designed exclusively for Native Hawaiians.
This free vocational training initiative equips individuals with hands-on experience and skills to launch successful careers in a variety of maritime fields, both at sea and onshore.
Explore career paths in Deck, Engine, Steward, and Shoreside Operations. The program features a
Work-Based Learning component, which includes day voyages aboard the Wa'a KlAKAHI.
This experience will equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for Hawaiian Voyaging.
As part of your Huakai with us, you'll also receive invaluable career and job placement counseling. Our support may include funding for advanced certifications, training, and endorsements, such as Merchant Mariner Credentials, STCW. VPDSD, Government Vessels, Advanced Fire Fighting, and
50-100 Ton Licenses, to help you stand out in the competitive maritime industry.
To be eligible for this transformative program,
applicants must provide the following documentation:

Current tetanus vaccination -
Proof of Native Hawaiian ancestry (such as a birth certificate or OHA card)
